About the speaker:
An independent scholar, Mary Hirsch’s fascination with Chinese shadow theater began a long time ago as a master’s student of Chinese literature at the University of Washington. She cut her teeth within a curatorial team preparing exhibitions and training docents at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. A brief stint in Sichuan assessing the readiness of ancient art for international transport tested her translation skills. She has taught college level courses on Chinese history and presented research on collections from San Francisco to Berlin. She catalogued and exhibited the Beijing Shadows at Princeton University and is currently translating an epic Daoist tale, The Chaos Box. |
